What we do.

Confronted with, on the one hand,  increased production of “waste”, pollution and rest streams in agriculture and food supply chains, and on the other hand significant developments and innovations in bio-technology and green economy, SYNERGIE co-founded a specialised Dutch-Egyptian consulting firm in these fields, that started operating in Egypt, in 2013.

Indeed, GREEN & BLUE Ltd. (G&B)  www.greenandblue.info offers services to private companies, (local) Governance institutions and para-state enterprises in the domains of water, land, minerals, energy, and other products, based on 1st and 2nd generation bio-technologies

  • resource use:  more efficient use, less losses (“wastes”)
  • waste transformation and recycling of waste water, rests streams from food processing
  • sustainable production of useful products such as biogas, electricity and bio-fuels

Important is that this ‘sustainability’ includes economic and commercially viability: also in green and people friendly economies, profitability is a must for sustained production and innovation processes. Renewable, reusable, low CO2 footprint, etc, etc…. all have a price tag.

With whom we work

Our start-up of SYNERGIE/Green&Blue is in Cairo, Egypt where initial show of interest and demands for advice came from:

  • semi-governmental companies specialised in waste water treatment from urban and industrial sources
  • National Research Institutions and private companies (Egyptian and foreign), participating in tenders and call for proposals of  “knowledge-to-industry” type of development projects funded by the European Union and other National institutions
  • Private companies that see business opportunities by making use of a vast potential of various feed stocks for a sustainable production of renewable products through bio-technological applications at industrial scale

Key achievements and consultancy impacts

SYNERGIE/G&B and partners are still working on the most effective consultancy model in this field, with special adaptations to the Egyptian business climate, values as well as political processes that are in full swing since the January Revolution of 2011. Since 2013, we have been working with three groups of clients:

  • A modest start of PPP building and other forms of consortium building with parties in a particular project that requires real cooperation ‘on the ground’
  • Increased awareness by potential partners in a partnership or consortium, about:

    •  what it takes to be(come) an effective partner in a consortium
    • Green solutions are not a quick fix to solve long neglected pollution and waste situations
    • Sustainable applications of bio-technology do not just come “off the shelve” , but have to be integrated into a serious business model (corporate setting) or in a serious socio-economic model (community setting)

Current assignments

Since our start-up in 2013 we are currently involved in:

  • Exploration of the feasibility of the production at industrial scale of eco board sheets for construction and furniture industry, from rice straw, wheat straw and cotton stalks;
  • Exploration of the feasibility of an international partnership to build an industrial scale pilot plant for the production of biodiesel from used cooking oil (UCO) ;
  • Co-implementing a tendered proposal of an industrial scale pilot of algae production and processing into bio-diesel; creating and facilitating the executive consortium of stakeholder for the implementation of the project, including networking with Dutch and Egyptian consortium members
